An Indian travel company has faced a backlash cebu online after it offered discounts to fans of the losing Pakistan cricket team – before the match had even been played cebu
India vs Pakistan may be one of the world’s great sporting rivalries but Saturday’s match was a deeply one-sided affair, with Cricket World Cup hosts India securing a comfortable seven-wicket victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat cebu
But MakeMyTrip wasn’t to know that when it ran an advert in Saturday morning’s Ahmedabad Times offering discounts on hotel bookings based on the scale of Pakistan’s expected defeat cebu
The tongue-in-cheek advert claimed to be following in the “Indian tradition” of welcoming guests, saying: “Tough times bring friends together and we want to take this opportunity to build a cebu better bond with you cebu
”It shows Pakistan fans in green sat around a smashed TV screen with the words “Boyz Playz Well” on a poster, a reference to a popular meme used to disparage Pakistan’s cricketing ability loosely based on a post-match quote from former capain Inzamam-ul-Haq cebu
Fans said the tone of the advert “wasn’t cricket” cebu
The company has yet to respond to the cebu online criticism, and did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Independent cebu
“Such a horrible ad cebu
We are not a sporting nation! A sparring nation,” wrote one user on X cebu
Another X user posted: “Horrible cebu
As an Indian, I want to apologise to every Pakistani person for this @makemytrip ad cebu
This does not represent Indian values cebu
It only represents the worst among us cebu
”“Goodbye MakeMyTrip cebu
This is NOT Cricket,” wrote another user on X cebu
In the run-up to the high-profile game, 5-star hotels in Ahmedabad hiked up their tariffs by more than 150 per cent and flight prices had also skyrocketed cebu
Amid the struggle to find accommodation in the city, one hospital manager told Reuters that patients had deliberately booked in for check-ups including overnight stays so they could sleep there after watching the game cebu
But visa issues for Pakistan fans and journalists meant that in practice very few were able to travel to Ahmedabad in time for Saturday’s match, which ended up being played out in front of a sea of blue at the 132,000-seater stadium cebu
One rival travel company has siezed upon the backlash against MakeMyTrip to offer its own discount available to all cebu
Without mentioning its rival by name, Cleartrip posted an offer stating: “It’s one thing to celebrate your win cebu
But to celebrate someone’s loss, that’s not cebu sportsmanship cebu
Let’s go places together and give #EqualMaukaToAll with a flat 30% off on Hotels cebu
”India’s next match after the victory on Saturday with be against Bangladesh in Pune, Maharashtra cebu
Pakistan will face Australia on Friday in Bengaluru cebu

Tyson Fury has revealed his undisputed heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk is set to take place on December 23 cebu
Fury and Usyk signed contracts last month for the eagerly-anticipated clash, which will take place in Riyadh and be the first undisputed contest in the blue riband division since Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield at Madison Square Garden in 1999 when all the belts were on the line cebu
At the time of the September 29 announcement from Queensberry and K2 Promotions no date for the bout was revealed, but Fury has now seemingly confirmed it will take place two days before Christmas cebu
Fury is currently in Riyadh preparing to face UFC fighter Francis Ngannou on Saturday, although has no concerns over the eight-week gap cebu between this weekend’s tune-up bout and the proposed date to take on Usyk cebu
He told Sky cebu Sports: “We’ve signed the contracts cebu
December 23, that’s out there isn’t it? It’s only eight weeks away from Saturday cebu
Why not?“I’ve not even had a fight this year so to get two in before the end of the year would be fantastic cebu
“Double payday cebu
There’ll be a nice big turkey in the Fury household this Christmas!“If it happens December 23, I’ll be playing that song, ‘Driving Home For Christmas’ cebu
“I won’t land back in the UK until Christmas Eve, late Christmas Eve and if we get a delay I’ll be spending Christmas with the reindeers in the airport!”Fury will contest the 35th bout of his career this weekend, but his WBC title will not be on the line against Ngannou for the 10-round fight cebu
